2014 Volkswagen Golf R

Volkswagen has released the first details of its powerful new Volkswagen Golf R, which is set to take to the stage at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. With a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 300 PS and 280 lbs ft, and transferring its power to the road via the latest 4MOTION four-wheel drive system, the new Golf R is the fastest-accelerating production Golf yet, with a zero to 62 mph time of just 5.3 seconds (compared with 5.7 seconds for the previous model), or 4.9 seconds when fitted with the optional six-speed DSG gearbox. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

2013 BMW 6-Series 640d xDrive

BMW is set to add another variant of the Coupe and Convertible to the BMW 6 Series line-up with the arrival of the BMW 640d xDrive Coupe and Convertible in spring 2012. Intelligent all-wheel drive – making its debut in the BMW 6 Series – teams up with a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo technology to take driving pleasure to another new level. The combination of a diesel engine and BMW xDrive all-wheel drive, which will also be found in the BMW 640d xDrive Convertible, gives the BMW 6 Series a spread of abilities none of its rivals can match.

2013 BMW 4-Series Coupe Concept

The latest generation of the BMW 3 Series Coupe and Convertible leads the way worldwide in the premium mid-range coupe and convertible market. Indeed few, if any, rivals have made such a defining impact on this segment in terms of design, dynamics and efficiency.

Now, with the unveiling of the BMW Concept 4 Series Coupe, BMW is looking ahead to the fourth generation of its sporty mid-range coupe – and reasserting its global leadership credentials in the process.

2014 Volkswagen Golf 7 GTD

• Sporty long-distance Golf with 135 kW / 184 PS only consumes 4.2 litres of fuel per 100 km
• Four-cylinder TDI engine of the Golf GTD complies with EU-6 emissions standard

The GTD has been the long-distance express vehicle in the Golf programme for 31 years now – combining the performance of a sports car with the fuel economy of a sub-compact car in a fascinating way. Volkswagen is now launching a new GTD on the market that is based on the seventh generation Golf. It is the most powerful Golf turbo-diesel ever with a nominal power that has been boosted by 14 to 184 PS (or 135 kW, at 3,500 to 4,000 rpm). This “GTI among the diesels” is driven by an entirely new four-cylinder TDI of the EA288 series – a transverse mounted, charged two-litre engine with common rail direct injection. Its maximum torque is a substantial 380 Nm – a gain of 30 Nm compared to the previous model – which is available over a broad rev range between 1,750 and 3,250 rpm. The TDI has a compression ratio of 15.8:1.

2014 Volkswagen Golf 4MOTION

Permanent 4-wheel drive with fifth generation Haldex coupling

Volkswagen is expanding the new Golf range: following the models with front-wheel drive launched at the end of 2012, the versions with 4MOTION all-wheel drive are now being unveiled. Volkswagen is thus continuing the long tradition of four-wheel drive Golf models – the first Golf with four driven wheels made its debut back in 1986. The new Golf’s permanent four-wheel drive system is one of the most modern and efficient of its kind in the world. In this latest version of the Golf 4MOTION Volkswagen is using a four-wheel drive system with an enhanced, fifth-generation Haldex coupling. The intelligently controlled 4MOTION drive weighs 1.4 kilograms less than the previous system, requires no pressure accumulator and reacts extremely quickly to every conceivable influence exerted on it. The result is greater active safety and improved handling.

2014 Volkswagen e-up!

The new e-up! is first and foremost a Volkswagen. And that means that like all other versions of this specialist city car the electrically powered version is also fully intuitive to drive, reliable and extremely safe. A few things, of course, are different, including how it is driven. First off: electric vehicles always have automatic transmission – with one forward and one reverse gear.
