2014 Volkswagen Golf 7 GTD

• Sporty long-distance Golf with 135 kW / 184 PS only consumes 4.2 litres of fuel per 100 km
• Four-cylinder TDI engine of the Golf GTD complies with EU-6 emissions standard

The GTD has been the long-distance express vehicle in the Golf programme for 31 years now – combining the performance of a sports car with the fuel economy of a sub-compact car in a fascinating way. Volkswagen is now launching a new GTD on the market that is based on the seventh generation Golf. It is the most powerful Golf turbo-diesel ever with a nominal power that has been boosted by 14 to 184 PS (or 135 kW, at 3,500 to 4,000 rpm). This “GTI among the diesels” is driven by an entirely new four-cylinder TDI of the EA288 series – a transverse mounted, charged two-litre engine with common rail direct injection. Its maximum torque is a substantial 380 Nm – a gain of 30 Nm compared to the previous model – which is available over a broad rev range between 1,750 and 3,250 rpm. The TDI has a compression ratio of 15.8:1.

Permanent 4-wheel drive with fifth generation Haldex coupling

Volkswagen is expanding the new Golf range: following the models with front-wheel drive launched at the end of 2012, the versions with 4MOTION all-wheel drive are now being unveiled. Volkswagen is thus continuing the long tradition of four-wheel drive Golf models – the first Golf with four driven wheels made its debut back in 1986. The new Golf’s permanent four-wheel drive system is one of the most modern and efficient of its kind in the world. In this latest version of the Golf 4MOTION Volkswagen is using a four-wheel drive system with an enhanced, fifth-generation Haldex coupling. The intelligently controlled 4MOTION drive weighs 1.4 kilograms less than the previous system, requires no pressure accumulator and reacts extremely quickly to every conceivable influence exerted on it. The result is greater active safety and improved handling.

The new e-up! is first and foremost a Volkswagen. And that means that like all other versions of this specialist city car the electrically powered version is also fully intuitive to drive, reliable and extremely safe.
